“If Beale Street Could Talk” is a drama based on James Baldwin’s book of the same name. Set in the early 70s the story is based on a young African-American woman who, played by KiKi Layne who fights to clear the name of her wrongly charged lover played by Stephen James.

Her supported mother played by Regina King is nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Barry Jenkins wrote the screenplay and is the director.
