Are you looking for an uplifting film? “80 for Brady,” starring Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field, is your winning ticket. The movie is based on a true story of a woman approaching her 90th birthday who wanted to see Tom Brady play football in person. She creatively designed her own football jersey with the saying, “Over 80 for Brady.” In the movie, all the leading ladies are over 80, except Sally Field, whose jersey reads, “75 for Brady,” clever indeed.
In his feature film debut, director Kyle Marvin recreates the epic 2017 Super Bowl, where then-quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots rallied his team to a historic comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons. And what a comeback! Atlanta scored three consecutive touchdowns to a 21-3 halftime lead, and in the third quarter, they scored another touchdown, making the score 28-3. The Patriots rallied and scored 25 consecutive points, thus tying the game in the final seconds. The game is the first and currently the only Super Bowl to be decided in overtime. New England received the kickoff after winning the coin toss and scored a touchdown to win the game.
Not only do we see four amazing actresses having fun at the Super Bowl, we re-live the sports event with video footage and former Patriots Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola, and Julian Edelman wearing their game-winning jerseys for the film reenactment of the intense game. The humor sprinkled throughout lifts the screenplay written by the duo Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern are known for their screenplay “Booksmart.”
You’ll also see that friendship is the key to the film, as Tomlin’s character faces a challenging medical condition. Yes, the jokes keep coming, although the true message in the film is their friendship and support of each other even during difficult times. As Brady says, “Don’t ever give up; keep on fighting.”
“80 for Brady” is a laugh-out-loud movie with something for everyone, and who better to star in this film than four award-winning stars, Lily, Jane, Rita, and Sally?
