HAVE GUN-WILL TRAVEL

Starring John Dehner

Have Gun-Will Travel followed the adventures of Paladin, a soldier of fortune-turned-hired gunfighter, played by John Dehner. Paladin preferred to settle problems without violence, yet, when forced to fight, excelled. He lived at the swanky Carlton Hotel in San Francisco, where he dressed in formal wear, ate gourmet food, attended the opera and enjoyed the company of beautiful women. When working as a gun-for-hire, he dressed in all black, used calling cards and wore a holster, decorated by a characteristic chess knight emblem. The knight symbol was in reference to his name and his occupation as a champion-for-hire. One of radio’s best-loved Westerns, Have Gun-Will Travel lasted on radio until 1960 and was televised from 1957 through 1963.

LEND ME YOUR EARS by Lisa Wolf

SISTER GOLDEN HAIR, by America

RELEASED: 1975

Watch On YouTube

Gerry Beckley remembered writing the song by starting with the first line: “Well I tried to make it Sunday, but I got so damn depressed”

Sister Golden Hair by America was written by band member Gerry Beckley. The song blends soft rock and folk music, with its catchy melody and smooth harmonies. It quickly became a favorite on the radio, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a week.

The song tells the story of a man who is reflecting on a past relationship and expressing his desire for the woman he loves to come back. Today, Sister Golden Hair continues to be loved by fans new and old. It often appears in movies, TV shows, and commercials, including a 2001 episode of The Sopranos, “Another Toothpick.” The song also appears in the movies Cherish (2002), Radio (2003) and All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006).

The success of Sister Golden Hair helped solidify America’s place in music history. The band gained popularity with hits like A Horse with No Name and Ventura Highway. Sister Golden Hair was part of their Holiday album. While America’s commercial success peaked in the 1970s, Sister Golden Hair remains their most well-known track.
