Happy October everyone! You know what that means … tons of Halloween-type shows all month! Here’s the Hollywood 360 newsletter, October 2024 / Vol. 42. As someone on our mailing list, you’ll receive the most current newsletter via email on the first day of every month. If you don’t receive it by the end of the first day of the month, check your spam folder as they often end up there. If it is not in your regular email box or in your spam folder, contact me at carlpamari@gmail.com and I’ll forward you a copy. The monthly Hollywood 360 newsletter contains articles from my team and the full month’s detailed schedule of classic radio shows that will air on Hollywood 360. This month we’ll feature not one, but two radio shows with Bela Lugosi! During the golden age of radio, Lugosi was a very busy film actor and didn’t have much time to appear on radio. To have two of his handful of radio broadcasts in one month is a real (trick or) treat! Lugosi is a guest on THE FRED ALLEN SHOW the week of October 5th, and a guest on THE ABBOTT & COSTELLO SHOW the week of October 12th. And also, DO NOT MISS a special two-part chilling story of SUSPENSE starring Orson Welles in “Donovan’s Brain” the week of October 26th. Happy Halloween everyone!
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM CARL AMARI:
BOLD VENTURE and BOSTON BLACKIE fans – THANK YOU – we saved both series!
As most of you know, I have licensed the entire Frederic W. Ziv library of more than 10,000 original radio shows. Mr. Ziv was one of radio’s premiere radio producers and syndicators.
The Ziv library contains 41 different radio series including the entire runs of BOLD VENTURE, BOSTON BLACKIE, I WAS A COMMUNIST FOR THE FBI, PHILO VANCE, THE CISCO KID, MR. DISTRICT ATTORNEY, FAVORITE STORY and many more.
Mr. Ziv preserved these radio shows on “unplayed” 16 inch transcription discs, which have been stored in a climate-controlled warehouse for more than 60 years. If these episodes are not transferred, they will never be heard by the world.
We worked with Kickstarter to save the complete runs of two amazing radio series, BOLD VENTURE starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and BOSTON BLACKIE starring Richard Kollmar.
We have all 78 BOLD VENTURE radio episodes available for digital download ($250) or via 39 audio CDs ($300) and we also now have all 219 BOSTON BLACKIE radio episodes available via digital download ($500) or via 110 audio CDs ($775).
Every episode has been transferred directly from the master 16 inch disc for brilliant sound quality! To order, simple call me on my direct line 847-915-5510 or email me carlpamari@gmail.com with your phone number and I’ll call you to take your order. Thank you for helping to keep these theater-of-the-mind radio shows thriving! Sincerely, Carl Amari
Our next Kickstarter is I WAS A COMMUNIST FOR THE F.B.I and we will soon have a Kickstarter website up with more information so check often for our Kickstarter website by searching “Kickstarter” and “I Was A Communist for the F.B.I.”
LEND ME YOUR EARS by Lisa Wolf
Take It Easy, by the Eagles
RELEASED: 1972
Thanks to the line, “Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona,” music lovers have made this Southwest town a popular stop on their road trips. Winslow is on Route 40 in northern Arizona, making it a great place to stop if you’re traveling from California to New Mexico.
“Take It Easy,” The Eagles’ debut single, was released in May, 1972 and quickly became a defining song of the 1970’s rock era. Co-written by Jackson Browne and Eagles’ founding member Glenn Frey, the song encapsulates the laid-back, reflective vibe of the California rock scene.
The song’s creation has a storied history. Jackson Browne initially started writing “Take It Easy,” but struggled to complete it. Glenn Frey, his neighbor and friend, helped finish the lyrics, adding the famous line “It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowin’ down to take a look at me.” This collaboration marked the beginning of the partnership between Browne and The Eagles.
Jackson Browne released his own version of “Take It Easy” on his second album, For Everyman, in 1973.
